Deep Tissue Massage in Bangkok

For knots that a gentle massage never reaches. Ask for firm, deep pressure and a therapist comes to your hotel room or condo in central Bangkok, usually in about 30 minutes, to work slowly on the neck, shoulders and back.

What Deep Tissue Means at Nirin

Deep tissue is less a separate massage than a way of working. The therapist picks the areas that are holding the most tension, usually the neck, the shoulders and the upper or lower back, and stays there. The pressure builds slowly, with thumbs, palms and sometimes the forearm, until it reaches the deeper layers of muscle.

There is no separate deep tissue item on our menu. You book a Thai or oil massage, ask for strong pressure and say where it hurts, and she shapes the session around that. With oil she can glide slowly along a tight muscle; with Thai, the firm pressure comes with stretches for the hips and back.

Not sure which you need? Our guide to Thai massage vs deep tissue explains how the two differ and which suits a stiff body or one stubborn knot.

Who Books a Deep Tissue Massage

  • Desk workers with a stiff neck and shoulders after long days at a laptop
  • Business travellers who carried bags through airports and slept badly in a new bed
  • Runners, gym regulars and golfers with tight legs, hips or lower back
  • Anyone who finds a normal massage pleasant but too soft to make a difference

Strong, But Never Too Much

Firm pressure should feel intense in a good way, never sharp. On a scale of one to ten, most people are happiest around a seven. Tell her where you are on that scale; she will keep checking, and she will ease off the moment you ask.

Mention old injuries, recent surgery, blood-thinning medication or pregnancy before she starts, so she can adapt or advise a gentler massage. If you are in real pain, a doctor or physiotherapist is the right first step.

It is normal to feel a little tender the next day, as after a good workout. Drink plenty of water, take a warm shower, and leave a day or two before the next deep session.

Questions

Can I get a deep tissue massage in my hotel room in Bangkok?

Yes. Book a Thai or oil massage, ask for strong pressure, and a therapist comes to your hotel room or condo, usually in about 30 minutes.

Is deep tissue on the Nirin menu?

Not as a separate item. It is a Thai or oil massage with firm, slow pressure on the areas you choose, at the same fixed price.

Does deep tissue massage hurt?

It should feel strong, not painful. Tell her if the pressure is too much and she adjusts straight away.

Thai massage or deep tissue for a stiff back?

Thai suits a body that is stiff all over and benefits from stretching. Deep tissue suits one or two stubborn knots, usually in the neck, shoulders or lower back.

Will I be sore after a deep tissue massage?

A little tenderness the next day is normal. Drink water, take a warm shower and wait a day or two before the next deep session.
